AKSG Donates N100 Million, Relief Materials To Bayelsa Govt …As Gov Emmanuel Speaks Hope To Duoye Diri

Akwa Ibom State Government has donated N100 Million and truck load of relief materials to Bayelsa State government to cushion the effect of flood disaster in the state.

The donation was presented to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Duoye Diri by Governor Udom Emmanuel, Tuesday, when he paid him a visit at Government House, Yenegoa.

Governor Udom Emmanuel who commended his Bayelsa State counterpart, Senator Duoye Diri, for his excellent and quick response to the current flood disaster in the state, noted that, the quick intervention approach by him has restored hope to the people affected by the flood.

The Akwa Ibom State Governor emphasized that, the day citizens lose hope, then the essence of Government would have been eroded and expressed appreciation to Governor Diri for keeping hope alive for the flood affected people of Bayelsa

“When a sad incident occurs, the people look up to government to come to their aid and I’m glad that you have risen squarely to the occasion and this has given your people hope.” Governor Emmanuel said.

The Governor then appealed to the Federal Government to expedite its intervention, so as to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities in Bayelsa and other states affected by the flood.

Governor Emmanuel therefore on behalf of the government and good people of Akwa Ibom State donated the sum of One Hundred Million Naira and a truck load of relief materials to the Bayelsa Government for distribution to the affected communities.

Responding, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Duoye Diri, appreciated the Governor’s visit and gifts, stating that Governor Emmanuel has proven himself, a leader and not a politician.

“When this flood occurred, you called on phone which I thought was enough, but this visit by you is very touching. You have risen to the demands of transformational leadership by this action of yours. This is what this moment needs, leaders not politicians and you have proven to be a leader. These gifts that you’ve given to us, will be very judiciously used and I can assure you that our people are very happy.”

“This incident has made 99 percent of the people of Bayelsa Internally displaced. Homes are submerged, roads have collapsed, communication network has ceased, electricity is completely out since all the transformers are under water. The damage that our people have suffered is unimaginable. We are therefore very grateful for this great help that you have offered.” Senator Diri reiterated.

Both Governors thereafter visited one of the IDP camps where they addressed the large crowd of people sheltered at the camp.

Governor Udom Emmanuel was accompanied on the visit by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Commissioner for Health, Prof Augustine Umoh, Commissioner for Housing, Otuekong Raphael Bassey, Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Sir Charles Udoh, Commissioner for Rural Development, Mrs. Enobong Mbobo and Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
