Mustapha Lawal produced yet another clean sheet as Sunshine Stars kept up the pressure on Nigeria Premier Football League group B top three teams on the weekend.
He kept his 4th shutout of the campaign as the Owena Whales defeated group leaders Lobi Stars 1-0 on Sunday.
His save to deny Joseph Atule in the first half could definitely be described as match-winning as Sunshine Stars continued their good run of form under Edith Agoye.
Lawal also made a trio of other saves to keep Sunshine Stars in the contest.
David Onovo netted a 22nd minute winner as they cut Rivers United’s lead at the third of the table to just two points with the Rivers outfit having two outstanding games at hand.
Lawal’s Sunshine Stars are now sitting on 21 points from 15 league fixtures, two clear of third-placed Rivers United, level on points with sixth-placed Abia Warriors and 5 ahead of Rangers in seventh.
