Akwa Utd’s James Ajako: Top three battle will go to last day
Akwa United fullback James Ajako believes that this season’s Nigeria Premier Football League race will not be decided until the final day.
Ajako was in action on Monday against Kwara United as fellow fullback, Muritala Taiye fired home a sublime angled effort inside 17 minutes before goals from Cyril Olisema and Ubong Friday led the Promise Keepers to a comfortable 3-0 win over the visitors at Godswill Akpabio Stadium – a result which has the Uyo outfit second on group A table with five points behind group leaders Bendel Insurance and one point adrift third placed Enyimba.
With Enyimba sitting third and Plateau United in hot pursuit in fourth spot, Ajako suggests that the top three teams will be battling it out right until the final day of the 2023 campaign on May 14.
“I think it’s a great race for the fans as well as the players,” Ajako told Lodgexpress official website.
“I think it will be until the last game of the season.
“This is a very tough league, every game is very important and this is the most crucial part of the season with just three games still to go.”
