The Flying Eagles of Nigeria were on Sunday June 4 knocked out of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup by South Korea.
In a game that lasted 120-minutes at the Santiago Del Estredo in Argentina, Nigeria dominated proceedings but failed to convert any of the chances created.
As early as five minutes, Jude Sunday tried an audacious Back flip that barely troubled the opposition goalie.
Victor Eletu, Solomon Agbalaka and Daniel Daga all tested the South Korean goal in a goalless first half.
The Ladan Bosso tutored Flying Eagles will continue their dominance in the second half but will rue their failure in the final third for the defeat against the 2019 edition runners-up, South Korea.
With the contest tied 0-0 at the expiration of regulation time, the match moved into extra-time in search of a winner.
In the 6th minute of extra-time, a rare corner-kick from Lee-Seung-Won was headed home by Choi Hyon to break Nigerians’ hearts.
Nigeria pressed for an equalizer with Emmanuel Umeh agonizingly missing two chances to draw level. In the end it finished Nigeria 0-1 South Korea.
As reward for the win, South Korea will advance to the last-4 where they will face Italy for a spot in the grand-finale of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
