A’IBOM SWEARS IN 2,275 CORPS MEMBERS …as Batch A, Stream II Orientation Course Commences

A total of 2,275 corps members, comprising 1,180 female and 1095 male, of Batch-A Stream-II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme have been sworn in at the permanent orientation camp, Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai LGA of Akwa Ibom state.
Addressing a cherry crowd of excited corps members at a brief swearing-in ceremony, Friday, the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, congratulated the youths on the successful completion of their academic obligation which earned them the NYSC call-up and admonished them to utilize the skills that they will be acquiring in camp towards complementing the efforts of Government at fast-tracking the development of the state across all sectors.
Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, the Governor restated his commitment towards improving the standard of facilities in camp even with a few days left before the expiration of his administration and announced various welfare packages to the corps members which he noted was reciprocal to the sacrifice that they would be making during the orientation exercise.
Speaking earlier, the state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Chinyere Ekwe, appreciated the Governor for what she termed “unflinching support” to the NYSC and particularly thanked the Governor for the renovation of the phase-2 Pavilion, regular provision of fares to their places of primary assignment and prompt payment of state allowance to corps members.
In his goodwill message, Akwa Ibom state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Dorosinmi, assured corps members of effective and adequate security across the state and stated that the police would be at their beck and call should they encounter any security challenge at any part of the state to which they may be posted.
Others who attended the colourful ceremony include the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Frank Archibong, the state comptroller of Nigeria Correctional Service, Ezeogwu Julius and other service chiefs including the representative of the Commander of 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Uyo, the state Director of Sports, Elder Ifiok Duff and other management staff of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, management staff of the NYSC in the state, among others.
Highlights of the ceremony were the administering of the oath of allegiance on the corps members by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom state, Justice Ekaete Obot who was represented by Justice Edem Akpan, a tug-of-war between female and male corps members as well as a colourful and elaborate parade.
