Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has knocked the Federal Government for failing to complete and deliver the East-West road, saying his government has been compelled to construct alternative routes to save and boost Rivers economy.

He said his administration was deliberately creating new roads through Woji and Eleme Towns into Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone to encourage substantial industrial activities in Rivers.

He listed his new interventions on roads as the new 10.3km Indorama-Agbonchia-Ogale-Ebubu-East West Link Road; the 6.5km dual carriage Woji-Aleto-Alesa-Refinery Road, the reconstruction of the 7.2km long Alode-Onne Road and 3k Alode internal roads.

Wike spoke at the kick-off of the reconstruction work on the 7.2km Alode-Onne Road and 3km internal roads on Tuesday, which was performed by Donald Duke, former Governor of Cross River State in Alode town of Eleme Local Government Area.

The Governor noted that Eleme council served as the economic hub of Rivers and everything was being done to attract more investors and encourage existing ones.

Wike expressed the hope that someday the Federal Government could awaken to its responsibility and respond to rehabilitating the deplorable East/ West Road. (The Nation)
