… Says Social Contract Commendable

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah has expressed delight over what he described as commendable presentation by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Umo Eno.
He stated that the social contract signed by the candidate was well received by Akwa Ibomites and he was convinced that he will keep his promises when elected into office in 2023.
The former Governor who is usually acknowledged as the father of modern Akwa Ibom made this known during a visit by the governorship candidate to officially inform and present him the governorship party flag for the 2023 elections.
The visibly elated elder statesman said, “I want to say that as at the time I raised your hand and declared you the preferred candidate, they asked me what were our reasons. I gave my reasons and I am now vindicated.
“Anybody who listened to you at the stadium today will now know why. I listened to you very carefully, you repeated your covenant with Akwa Ibom people. You stated those things you are going to do for Akwa Ibom and you brought out your focal points so clearly that anybody that had any doubt now knows that you are somebody that has ambition and focus and if I may quote your words, “what you wish for the future is what I am going to do for the future,” and I was very pleased with that comment.”
While acknowledging that the proposals by Pastor Eno for the seaport, science park, and electricity among others were lofty, he advised him to specifically take electricity beyond the 191 Megawatts which he had built.
“I listened and heard that you want to do the seaport, you want to do science park, and electricity. I will advise, don’t just raise electricity to the 191 Megawatts that I built, please go beyond that. And make sure that every corner of this state has constant quality power. Because all the things you have promised to do are IT- driven, and you can’t drive IT with generators, you must have power. And while you are doing it, consider a mix because renewable energy is becoming something critical now.
“I congratulate you that you were able to conceive all these things and you have made a covenant with Akwa Ibom people and I know it’s not a frivolous covenant, once you say it, I know you are going to do it. So I congratulate you and pray that God will guide you successfully through this campaign and that you will become the next governor of Akwa Ibom State.
“One last piece of advice, continuity is critical. Build on all the good things that this government has been doing, follow my foot steps, and with God on your side, you won’t go wrong.”
Earlier, Pastor Umo Eno appreciated Obong Attah for his fatherly role in his life and that of the state as a whole.
He noted that he considered it necessary to present the flag to him (Obong Attah) especially having had his first political appointment as the Chairman, Hotels Management and Tourism Board under his administration and as the one who raised his hand and presented him to Akwa Ibom stakeholders.
The seasoned entrepreneur thanked Obong Attah for receiving his team and prayed for more blessings upon him. In the team were; the deputy DG of campaigns- Prince Godwin Ntukeudeh, deputy governorship candidate – Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government – Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Commissioners including Finance, Works, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Education, and Lands and Water Resources, Dr. Nsikan Linus Nkan, Prof Eno Ibanga, Hon.
