A’Ibom 2023 Guber: Group Salutes Umo Eno Over Choice Of Running Mate

Ahead of the 2023 gubernatorial elections in Akwa Ibom state, a socio- political organisation in the state, known as Brighter Future For Democracy, has doffed its
hearts for Pastor Umo Eno over his appointment of Dr(Mrs) Akon Eyakenyi, as his preferred running mate in the 2023 governorship race.
In a statement issued at the end of its maiden meeting held in Uyo,over the weekend, the group declared its intention to support the PDP to success over what it described as ‘excellent political calculation’ to be exhibited by any political party since the inception of preparation for next year’s elections.
According to the group, the choice of a female running mate by Pastor Umo Eno, has promoted his candidature above that of other political parties, who rate women low and unfit for the number two indigene of the state.
The group frowned at the deliberate refusal of other political parties in Akwa Ibom state, to discredit the women and treat them as green horns in the political arrangements of the state.
“It is a very sad narrative that in Akwa Ibom state, no party Governorship Candidate has considered it wise and proper to appoint a woman as running mate, except the PDP flagbearer, in the person of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, this development to us in this group, is a deliberate attempt by the men Governorship Candidates to relegate the women to the background of politics in the forthcoming dispensation.
We consider this action as wicked, ungodly, unacceptable and uncivilized in twilight of the 21st century, where the women are given almost equal access to any political office of their choice”, the group emphasized with astonishment.
“We are determined to reciprocate Pastor Umo Eno’s kind gesture by forming this group,so that, we can mobilise total support for their candidature which is tailored towards women inclusiveness in the scheme of things”, the group further disclosed.
The group described Eyakenyi’s choice as the best thing to happen to the state political landscape, lashing out at other political parties for their act of selfishness.
Recall that the choice of Senator Akon Eyakenyi as a running mate to Pastor Umo Eno, had been applauded by many, who see such arrangement as a clear demonstration of democracy in action courtesy of the People’s Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom.
