Supreme Court affirms creation of wards by Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC)

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Calabar affirming and validating the creation of new Wards by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) in the year 2020.
With the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the newly created wards have come to stay in Akwa Ibom State. The total number of wards in Akwa Ibom State for conduct of Local Government Elections is 368. You will recall that 39 Wards were created to add to the 329 existing wards to get 368 wards.
Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN and Utibe Nwoko Esq represented AKISIEC in the case from the High Court to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The total polling units Akwa Ibom State is 4,354 scattered across about 3000 villages. Akwa Ibom State had 2980 polling units before INEC created 1,374 polling units to make it 4,354 polling units.
