Former Council Helmsman Reminisces Youth Sports Festival

A former chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Council, Hon Ubong Idiong has reflected on the Akwa Ibom Youth Sports Festival revived by the Udom Emmanuel administration.

He said the sports festival remains a vehicle for discovery of raw talents in schools across the State.

The former chairman stated this today during the August 2022 Congress of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN Akwa Ibom State Chapter.

Hon. Idiong who bagged the award of the Best Sports Chairman of the Year 2017 and 2018 said advanced- intensive preparation was the key to the success of his local government area in the festival.

According to him, the two victories launched Oruk Anam into limelight and commended the State Government for reviving the school sports.

The former Council Chairman maintained that the athletes who took part in the exercise are now doing well even outside the State.

Recall that Oruk Anam Local Government Area won the 2017 and 2018 edition of the Akwa Ibom State Youth Sports Festival in both Primary and Secondary School categories.

The Akwa Ibom State Chairman of SWAN, Emmanuel Akpan, FCAI had hailed Hon Ubong Idiong for the achievements in the sports sector during his tenure as the chairman of Oruk Anam.

He appreciated him for gracing the Congress of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN Akwa Ibom State Chapter and prayed God to reward his commitment to the service of humanity.

The guest was later shown the refurbished Akwa Ibom SWAN office located in the premises of the NUJ Press Center.
