Gov. Emmanuel celebrates with finance commissioner on daughter’s marriage

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, Saturday led other dignitaries to celebrate with the state’s Finance Commissioner, Mr. Linus Nkan, who gave his daughter, Miss Imaobong Linus Nkan, out in marriage to Mr. Enwongo Michael Udoh, at Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo.

Addressing the couple after their exchange of vows, Governor Emmanuel congratulated the couple and welcomed them into the institution of marriage, which he described as an enjoyable Divine creation, to avail man with help to accomplish nature’s huge responsibility upon him.

He admonished the couple to keep to God’s own precepts for marriage to get the best out of it.

According to the governor, approaching the altar of God for the solemnization of their matrimony was indicative of their signing up, before several witnesses, to adhere to biblical standards which, he stressed, does not permit domestic violence, divorce or any other marital vices.

In his words, “marriage was instituted by God and God has precepts to follow. …Man has a whole lot of responsibilities on man and those responsibilities become very very interesting when you have a helper. … that’s what eases the whole lot of responsibilities on man. So today I welcome you to the club and sure you’ll find it very enjoyable.”

He however acknowledged that presentations put forward about the antecedents of each of the couple, indicated godly dispositions and preparedness for marriage, beyond the wedding ceremony, while applauding the parents of the day for the good parenting that have occasioned the honourable gathering.

In an exhortation titled “Let Your Light so Shine, culled from Matthew 5:16, the officiating Minister, Pastor Darlington Okonkwo of the Streams of Joy Ministries, Uyo, said love is a beautiful thing that the devil seeks to extinguish from the earth, but that God through godly marriages would illuminate the dark world and institute love.

The cleric admonished the couple to be intentional about glorying their heavenly Father by loving and remaining transparent with each other, even when things go contrary.

Father of the bride and Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Linus Nkan, in his vote of thanks, expressed gratitude to God for the success of both the traditional and church wedding events.

He described the State Governor’s presence at the event as a great honour to the families, and also appreciated other dignitaries and well-wishers for making out time be guests at the event.
