World Breastfeeding Week: Experts Speak in favor of Exclusive Breastfeeding

Experts have emphasized the need for exclusive breastfeeding, saying it remains safest for babies.

Expressing their views in a an interview on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, the experts, Mrs Ekaette Ibanga, Akwa Ibom State Nutrition Officer, Mrs Margaret Etim, Director of Health Promotion Officer, Akwa Ibom State and Dr. Uduak Nkanta of the Medical Women Association said no nursing mother should deprive her child of breast milk for any reason.

They maintained that mothers need absolute support to be able to breastfeed their babies and called for the strengthening of policy and National Laws that protect breastfeeding.

According to them, there should be awareness on breastfeeding in the communities to help nursing mothers to carry out breastfeeding in line with laid down procedures.

In an interview, a nursing mother, Mrs Nsikak Imoh said carrying out exclusive breastfeeding was not an easy deal

World breastfeeding week is an annual celebration which is held every year from August one to seven in more than 120 countries including Nigeria.

The campaign is aimed at raising awareness about breastfeeding and its advantages
