Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno has urged Christians across the state to continuously pray for the government and leaders at different levels to effectively deliver on their mandates.
Speaking at the episcopal thanksgiving service in honour of Rt. Rev. Prince Asukwu Edet Antai, and wife, Dame Victoria Antai held at the Cathedral of All Saint, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Uyo, he noted that prayer was essential to guide and guard those who are in authority.
Quoting from 1Timothy 2, the Governor who is an ordained Minister said, “I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for leaders and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful, quiet, godly and dignified life and that we may deliver the dividends of democracy to our people.”
He congratulated the Rt Rev. Prince Antai, and wife who until their retirement were the Bishop of Uyo Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) and President of Women Ministries of the Church respectively.
Governor Eno noted that the successful completion of one’s term of service in any field of endeavour is deserving of thanksgiving, and he applauded the celebrators for taking out time to acknowledge and appreciate God.
According to him, “We are here today to honour a man who has contributed so much to the body of Christ and our state. Retirement from office alive is not an easy task, so we like to celebrate you, and pray that God will continue to strengthen you.”
The Governor also appreciated the church for the supportive role played during the last elections and assured that by the grace of God, the church would not be disappointed.
