Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commiserated with his Honorary Special Adviser on Creative Industry and former Member representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Idongesit Ituen, on the death of his wife, Mrs Jessie Ituen
Governor Eno expressed his condolences in a message delivered at the funeral held at UPE Primary School, Calabar-Itu Highway, Itu Local Government Area.
Expressing grief over the irreplaceable loss, the governor lauded Ituen’s gesture towards saving lives by setting up a foundation in his late wife’s name to help defeat the scourge of cancer, which took Jessie to her early grave.
He, thereafter, announced a ten million naira contribution of the state government as support to the foundation and assured of continuous support for the bereaved family.
“I want to thank you for rising to the occasion to fight this dreaded disease to ease others of the pain you have suffered. You don’t want others to suffer the same. That’s the best memory you can leave of your wife and she will continue to live on because that foundation is named after her,” he said.
Recalling Ituen’s involvement during his guber campaign days amid his personal struggles, he described him as a selfless politician who has always put public interest ahead of his personal concern.
He prayed for God’s comfort for the grieving husband, the entire bereaved family and help for him to raise the children she left behind.
Ituen, in his speech, thanked the governor and leadership of Insight Bible Church for standing by him through the period of grief and making out time to grace the funeral.
According to Ituen, despite regretting the loss of his wife of fourteen years to cancer, the lessons he learnt in the process about how early detection can help in the battle against the ailment informed his decision to establish the Jessie Ituen Solidarity Foundation, to help the living.
