The Honorable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Akwa Ibom State, Sir Charles Udoh KSJ, has reiterated the resolve of the Akwa Ibom State Government to develop the entertainment industry in Akwa Ibom by investing in homegrown talents and providing a platform for them to showcase.
The Commissioner made this known on Sunday while interacting with the Press at Ibom Christmas Park, the venue of Ibom Christmas Unplugged and the award-winning Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival 2023.
He noted that Akwa Ibom State Government, under the able leadership of His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, has placed a premium on youth and talent development, as enshrined in the #AriseAgenda, hence the decision to engage homegrown gospel talents to perform at the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival 2023.
The Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival is an annual event that brings together worshippers from all over the world to celebrate the season of love, giving, thanksgiving, unity, and brotherhood.
“One of the benefits of using local gospel artistes for the forthcoming Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival 2023 is that it promotes the growth and development of the local music industry,” he said.
“This will provide a platform for our gospel artistes to showcase their talents and gain exposure to a wider audience. Additionally, our artistes are more familiar with our cultural nuances and traditions, which allows them to connect better with the audience and create a more authentic and meaningful worship experience,” he added.
Further stressing the need to engage homegrown artistes, Sir Charles Udoh emphasized that using homegrown gospel artistes promote a sense of community and pride among the people of Akwa Ibom, as they get to see their own people performing on a global stage.
Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Ibom Christmas Park as part of activities for the forthcoming Ibom #ChristmasUnplugged.
Christmas Unplugged is a 32-day event that provides a mixed grill of back-to-back music, drama, comedy, games, cultural display, talent shows, outdoor catering, and lounging.
