In response to swirling rumours that he had intentions of shaking up the Osun United backroom staff, the club’s newly appointed chairman, Mr. Akinolu Maxwell, has stepped forward to set the record straight. In an exclusive conversation with Futball Naija, Mr. Maxwell shared his vision for the club and reassured everyone of his commitment to unity and progress.
Dispelling any concerns, Mr. Maxwell emphatically stated, “I am not sacking anybody.” He went on to emphasize, “We will work together, and we will achieve together.” Following a meeting with the backroom staff, Mr. Maxwell made it crystal clear that their positions were secure, and no changes in personnel were imminent. “I told them nothing is going to happen to any backroom staff,” he reiterated.
Acknowledging the financial constraints currently in place, Mr. Maxwell assured the backroom staff that pending the approval of the new budget, they would receive their due compensation. He encouraged diligence in their work and made it clear that his door was always open for any discussions. He underlined the need for unity within the club, stating that any side-talks or back-biting would not be tolerated, and individuals engaging in such behaviors could find themselves on the outside looking in.
Discussing the new management structure, Mr. Maxwell revealed that the team manager, Mr. Kabiru Adekunle, had been given increased authority. He now heads the administration of Osun United Football Club, and Mr. Maxwell encouraged the backroom staff to support and please him in his new role. However, he made it clear that the “big man syndrome” had no place in the club, and anyone displaying such behavior would be swiftly shown the door.
Reacting to Mr. Maxwell’s address, Mr. Opeyemi, the club secretary, expressed his contentment with the announcement. He, in turn, urged the backroom staff to continue their unwavering support for the team, particularly through their fervent prayers.
With unity, support, and a clear vision for the future, Osun United is poised for an exciting new chapter in their journey. As the club embarks on its 2023-24 NNL campaign, they are set to host Crown FC of Ogbomosho on November 4, 2023, at the Osogbo Township Stadium. The dawn of a new era is on the horizon, and the unity within the club will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in its success.
