MONDAY UKO MEETS SPORTS STAKEHOLDERS, SOLICITS SUPPORT FOR ARISE AGENDA

In furtherance of his ongoing consultative tour since resumption of office, the recently-sworn-in Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, met sports stakeholders earlier today, Tuesday.
The meeting which took place at the VIP lounge of Godswill Akpabio international stadium was attended by referees, coaches, athletes, executive and members of players union, sports journalists as well as the executive and members of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
Setting the tone for the meeting, Mr. Uko said that his decision to meet the stakeholders was based on the important role that they are expected to play in the success of the ARISE agenda of Governor Umo Eno in the sports sector of the state.
“I thank His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom state for finding me worthy to be reappointed as a member of the state Executive Council but I cannot do it without you, the critical stakeholders”, he said.
“I recognize the important role that you play in the promotion and development of sports in our state, therefore, as His Excellency, the Governor, did a few days ago at Akwa Ibom Dialogue, I have also come to consult you all and solicit that we work together to translate the vision of the Governor in the sports sector as contained in his ARISE agenda”, he added.
Contributions and suggestions were received from Elder Paul Bassey, the Facilitator of the Youth Development and Sports component of the Governor’s ARISE agenda and Chairman of Akwa United Football Club, Coach Daniel Umoette, the state Chairman of Coaches Association, who spoke on behalf of all coaches, Miss Comfort James, an 800m gold medallist at the recently-concluded National Championship in Benin, who spoke on behalf of all athletes, Sir Enefiok Alexander, the Chairman of AUPCTRE and FIFA-badge referee, Anietie Ferdinand Udoh as well as Obot Boniface who spoke on behalf of the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers, NANPF, among others.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Mrs. Beatrice Udoinyang thanked the participants for turning up for the meeting and promised to develop their contributions and suggestions into a working document.
