He cited the case of Senator Adams Oshiomole and Senator Adamu Ailero while noting that it is only the Ekiti State governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, who hasn’t fought with his predecessor.

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has taken a swipe at governors who turn against their predecessors when they assume office.

Akpabio, while speaking at the 60th birthday anniversary lecture and book presentation of Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele in Abuja, described such circumstances as unfortunate.

The Senate President noted that there is no current governor in Nigeria that doesn’t have issues with their predecessors.

He cited the case of Senator Adams Oshiomole and Senator Adamu Ailero while noting that it is only the Ekiti State governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, who hasn’t fought with his predecessor.

The Senate president applauded Senator Michael Bamidele Opeyemi for his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu when he served him as a legislative aide in 1992.

Akpabio stated that “The Governor of Ekiti State is a great example of what leadership should be; he has remained steadfast.

“As a governor, the moment you hand over power to your successor, he will turn on you; either his taste will change, or his attitude will change. There is no governor in Nigeria that has no problem with their predecessor, apart from the Ekiti governor.

“That is why we have to celebrate Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele for the kind of person he is.”
