The 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) marble was on Sunday won by Enyimba FC.
The Peoples Elephant carted home their ninth league shield after holding Rivers United to a 1-1 draw in their final game of the Super Six play-off at the Mobalaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos.

The Finidi George-tutored side won the league on superior goal difference after tying on nine points with Rivers United and Remo Stars.

Enyimba drew three and won just two of their five games in the championship play-off, which was good enough for the side to emerge champions.

Enyimba drew first blood in the 39th minute in the final game, as Ekene Awazie dispatched a well-taken strike.

Rivers United responded immediately after the halftime break, with Nyima Nwagua stabbing the ball into the net after a goalline scuffle.

The Peoples Elephant held on for a famous draw that extended their achievement as the most successful club in the Nigerian league.

The Aba side will represent Nigeria at the CAF Champions League next season alongside Remo Stars, which finished second.

The Ikenne Boys defeated Bendel Insurance 1-0 in an earlier fixture.

Qudus Akanni’s 36th-minute strike proved vital in securing their place in the continent’s premier club competition next season.

Rivers United finished third and will play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
