COLLEGE OF EDUCATION BAGS FULL ACCREDITATION IN 31 PROGRAMMES … Scores Governor Emmanuel high in education

Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit has earned full accreditation in 31 Academic Programmes Approved by the National Commission for Colleges of Educatiion (NCCE) and National Universities Commission (NUC).
The accreditation which came on the heels of fulfilling the checklist given by the (NCCE) and (NUC), had 21 academic programmes for the Nigeria Certificate In Education (NCE) and 10 programmes for the degree level.
The Provost, College of Education, Afaha Nsit,Dr.Daniel Udo, while filing questions during an interview session in his office recently, stated that for an academic programme to attain full accreditation, one has to acquire facilities that will aid teaching and learning unabated before the various experts from various disciplines will visit the programmes.
Dr Udo stated that as a State Government College, the bulk of financing the accreditation exercise is on the State Government and seized the opportunity to give endless kudos to Governor Udom Emmanuel for his tireless passion for
Education which is evident in the support and cooperation given to the college.
He also commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for the support and partnership the college has enjoyed so far including the laboratory equipment sponsored by them.
The College helmsman stressed the need to maintained all the criteria in the checklist so as not to loose accreditation in programmes earlier attained, adding that once accreditation is denied, students will have to move to a nearby college that offer similar programmes where the department has full accreditation.
He appealed with Akwa Ibomites to cherish what they have and take advantage of the opportunity to make good use of it.
Speaking on the challenges of the school, the college boss mentioned low enrollment of students which reflects on the Internally Generated Revenue of the school, stating that the school does not have enough funds to sustain the administration.
“For instance, the current school fees that students are paying now, the amount was approved since 2010 or 2012 and you can see the state of devaluation in our currency between that time and now, meanwhile we are still collecting the same. So where would we have enough to pay casual workers, part time labourers, security agencies and maintain the running of the generator? ”
He expressed appreciation for the Information and Communication Centre (ICT) which he identified as one of the areas that has helped in generating revenue.
He said the ICT centre is working in its full capacity and was able to accommodate 5,000 candidates that wrote the just concluded JAMB.
Speaking on the overview of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s 8 years in office, he said
“If anybody would score this present administration low, it will not be in the education sector as far as I am concern. I take College of Education, Afaha Nsit for instance, if anybody is driving down to Afaha Nsit now, its just a matter of few minutes.
“Look at the dual carriage way that was commissioned just few days ago and then look at the enormous funds he has injected into the accreditation process.
“For us to be able to accommodate two visiting regulatory bodies almost at the same time in quick succession and achieve the criteria on the checklist is a feat worth celebrating. My joy is that, whatever was injected in terms of funding into the programmes has yielded the desired results.
“We do not only have programmes’ accreditation but also institutional accreditation.”.
