Akwa United will continue their quest for a third FA Cup title in eight years when they square up against EFCC Football Club in a round of 32 game of the 2023 Federation Cup at the Awka City stadium, Wednesday.
The two-time champions made it to the round of 32 after recording a 1-0 win over Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in Enugu while EFCC overcame Katukan Tsafe FC of Zamfara in the round of 64.
Head coach of the team Ayodeji Ayeni has named a formidable team for the knockout game against the Abuja based Nigeria National League side.
Coach Ayeni in a pre-match interview expressed optimism that his boys are good shape and ready to put in their very best to ensure they make it to the next round.
“FA Cup is a knockout competition and we know very well that there is always no second chance. So we have to ensure we avoid any upset. We need to be alive In Front of goal. I have confidence in my prayers and I trust that they are more than capable of getting the job done.
“We have our game plan and tactics on how to approach the game. We have lots of respect for any team we face, and on Wednesday, we will go out there and do our best while focusing on making it to the next round “.
The Promise Keepers who defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 in their last home match of the season in Uyo on Sunday are in good form going into Wednesday’s game.
The winner of the tie will qualify to the round of 16 of the competition. The champions of the Federation Cup will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup competition.
