Samuel Matthew insists Doma Utd top 3 hopes still alive after Sunshine Stars point
Doma United midfielder Samuel Matthew insists their top three push remains alive after 1-1 stalemate at Sunshine Stars.
The Savannah Tigers are three points behind group B leaders Rivers United & Lobi Stars and they have to play Niger Tornadoes, Dakkada and Wikki Tourists across their next three fixtures.
Samuel who enjoyed a great afternoon at Akure with his defensive duties on display as well, making 2 tackles, 4 interceptions and 2 clearances in an all-round top performance, was asked about the race for top three after Wednesday’s draw.
“I’m hopeful that we can pull it off. Especially at this stage of the season, the one point is very, very important,” Samuel told Lodgexpress.com
“Obviously the results [elsewhere] today were in our favour, so just got to stick to it. [We need to] try to win as many games as possible and hopefully we can finish in the top three. I thought we made it a little bit too difficult for ourselves today,
“But we got the one point, so I mean, that’s the most important thing. I think overall, we enjoyed an OK game. [In the] first half especially, we had much control of the game we equalized immediately after they scored us and I think we could have just kept the ball a little bit better.
“It’s going to be a massive game [Niger Tornadoes] for us and I think everyone wants to be involved in that type of game. We are happy for the draw today and now it’s just time to recover and get ready for the weekend.”
