Niger Tornadoes new boy James Arong delighted with assist for Jonas winner
Niger Tornadoes new signing James Arong hailed the fighting spirit shown for victory at Dakkada on Sunday.
David Okoromi opened the scoring before Emmanuel Jonas went on to double the lead for the visitors all thanks to a brilliant chip pass from Arong. Veteran midfielder, Aniekan Ekpe drew one back for the hosts from the spot but it wasn’t enough as Tornadoes escaped with a narrow 2-1 win.
“Yeah, I expect him (Jonas) to score. Him, Okoromi, Ajawa, Okoye – we’ve got good players that can score,” debutant Arong who arrived the club during the transfer window from Akwa United told Lodgexpress official website. “We’re never in doubt when any of us is through on goal.
“It’s a hard match against Dakkada, especially away. They’re a team that can mix it up – they can play nice football and play long balls. It’s just a fight until the last whistle.
“On a big pitch like this which I’m much familiar with, you can get tired, and I guess that’s what happened with their defence. It was a big opportunity for me to give it to him, I executed it well and his finish won us the game.”
