Abia Warriors goalscorer Nweke Kalu finds positives from Rivers United draw

Abia Warriors captain Nweke Kalu feels they can take positives from their 1-1 draw with Rivers United.

The playmaker opened the scoring before Morice Chukwu found an equaliser late for Rivers at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Sunday’s stalemate leaves Abia Warriors fourth in the table and it also marked their first point in the second round of the season.

But Kalu believes there are positives to take from last afternoon’s performance, starting on Wednesday when the Umuahia outfit host regional rivals Rangers.

“I felt that it was a match we deserved to win, we had the right mentality from the start,” he told Lodgexpress official website.

“Everyone was working really hard, trying to break their back four as quick as possible. At times it was very tough. When we were getting behind them they were recovering so well it was hard to make that extra pass to break it.

“I think we have to be more clinical with our crossing and more clinical with our passing – the end product just to finish it off. We can hopefully improve on it on Wednesday against Rangers.”
