Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Akwa Ibom State Pastor Umo Eno has promised to establish a sports academy in Eket Local Government Area if elected in the forthcoming governorship election.

Pastor Eno made the promise at the PDP campaign rally in Eket Local Government Area held at the township stadium.

He commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for building a standard stadium which according to him, must be complemented with a sports academy to derive the full value of the facility.

Pastor Eno who is the visioner of the Royalty Group appreciated the people of Eket for their hospitality and support for his business which was launched over 25 years ago.

He maintained that Eket is home for him, hence the Eket campaign rally was an opportunity to openly appreciate them and not a campaign per se, adding that it was payback time for the people of Eket .

According to him, ” Eket people, for accommodating me all these years, I want to say you have taken care of me in the last 25 years. Now is payback time. You gave me land, supported our businesses, stood by us, you did not send us away. Now that God has made it possible for Deacon Udom Emmanuel to see what others did not see and brought me to limelight through your support and the party, all your expression of love will not be in vain.

“Eket this is your time. The governor has given us a stadium, that stadium needs an international-size swimming pool, a squash court, basketball court, and infact a sports academy. The first sports academy in this state will be built here in Eket LGA,” he said.

In their separate remarks, the political leader of Eket, Chief Nduese Essien, Member representing Eket State Constituency, Rt Hon. David Lawrence, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong, LGA Chairman, Hon. Akaniyene Tommy and wife of the Paramount Ruler of Eket, Obongawan Mandu Abia stated that Eket will be delighted to have one of their own as governor of the State, adding that they had resolved and are mobilising to ensure the victory of Pastor Eno and all PDP candidates.

They commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for his development strides in the area, some of which they said were at completion stages, adding that they desire a government that will further on the strides.

While they described Pastor Eno as a son of Eket who has lived, done business in the area, provided jobs and supported Eket people, they reiterated that it was impossible to support anyone else against their own.

In his remarks, Governor Udom Emmanuel who was represented by his wife, Dr (Mrs) Martha assured that whatever project is left in Eket would be finished by Pastor Umo Eno and the PDP.

She described Pastor Eno as a man of character, competence, capacity and compassion and assured everyone that when elected, he would not disappoint the people of Eket and the state at large.

The governor therefore appealed to the people of Eket to collect their PVCs and vote for the PDP at all levels.

While introducing the candidate, the Director-General of campaign, Ambassador Assam Assam, SAN, and the state chairman of the party, Elder Aniekan Akpan noted that PDP remains the only party with a clear development plan for the state and Nigeria in general, and urged everyone to vote for the PDP from Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as president, Pastor Umo Eno as Governor and all other PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.
