Wike, Atiku’s ‘fight’ gets messier as Rivers govt seals PDP presidential campaign office

The political fight between the political camp of the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State took a new dimension on Friday as the campaign office of Atiku was sealed off in Port Harcourt.

The Rivers State PDP presidential campaign council said the office located in the GRA, Port Harcourt was sealed off action on the orders of the Rivers State government.

Wike had also a few weeks ago signed Executive Order 22 which prohibits the citing of campaign offices by political parties in residential areas without government approval.

But the media team of the PDP PCC, Rivers State, said it had applied for approval from the state government but has not received any feedback for several weeks.

The group, therefore, condemned the “act because it rubs off on our fundamental right to free expression of interest.”

It also said: “This egregious move by the Rivers State Government, seen in the prism of politics, tends to militarise our democracy and renders our dear state politically recessive when juxtaposed with other states in the country.”

PlatinumPost reports that Wike, who is the leader of Group of five (G5) governors opposed to Iyorchia Ayu as national chairman of the opposition party as well as Atiku’s campaign team, on Thursday revealed that they have settled for a presidential candidate to support ahead of next year’s polls, saying he would be unveiled in January.

Other governors in the G5, who have also failed to identify with Atiku’s bid for presidency, are Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Ifeanyi Ugwuayi of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Samuel Ortom of Benue.
