PDP Has No Hand In Senator Oba’s Travail- Umo Eno

As candidates seeking elective positions in 2023 continue to articulate their blueprints and visions to their constituents, Pst. Umo Eno, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has disassociated the PDP from complicity in the court travails of Obong Bassey Albert (OBA), the gubernatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
The PDP candidate made this explication on Friday during a televised interview on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television.
Responding to questions bothering on the Sen. OBA’s 42 years jail sentence by the Federal High Court in Akwa Ibom State, Eno empathized the court judgement passed on the the YYP gubernatorial candidate. He, however, stated that the PDP has no hand in the case.
“It’s unfortunate that all these have happened. I don’t also think the PDP or anyone has a hand in what happened with our brother, Senator OBA, because these are issues that pre-date all of us. It started in 2014 and is a federal issue”
“The PDP didn’t ask any party to conduct its elections, or not to conduct its primaries, or to conduct it at night without supervision. I don’t think that has to do with the PDP. So, I’ll really like to see how the PDP is involved in any of these. I would wish that we all go to the field and test our candidacy with the people,” he stated.
Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had in June 24, 2019 arraigned Albert on a six-count charge of allegedly taking possession of six vehicles worth N204 million while serving as Commissioner for Finance in the state.
When asked if the court sentence and circumstances surrounding other candidates emergence on the ballot would in any way influence the result of the 2023 gubernatorial election in the State, Eno, the leading gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 election maintained that he is focused on campaigning and gaining the goodwill of the people of Akwa Ibom whom he intends to passionately serve.
“For me, I’m running an election and I’m running full steam like I’m running with contenders. I don’t let that affect the way we run our campaigns. I have business with the electorates and I understand that I have to convince them that I’m able to do the job”
“So, for contenders, I don’t have any part to play in that which is not of my making, but for us in our campaign, we are running a full election,” he added.
He further stated that he is focused on connecting the dots by consolidating on the grand achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the areas of infrastructural development, agricultural renaissance, as well as furthering peace and prosperity in the State.
In his words, “If you look at the Arise Agenda, it is targeted at sustainable development through reducing unemployment in the state, be it in agricultural revolution, tourism, rural development, infrastructural development, security, education, and economic development”
“With these, the youths can learn vocations that will help them to become job creators themselves”
“Besides these, we bring experience: organisation, character, competence, capacity and compassion from the private sector, because no matter how much you know, if you don’t have character, then there’s a problem”
“A whole lot of people that want to serve may not have that compassion, but I bring character, competence and above all, compassion.”
