Gov Emmanuel To Deliver Over 128km Road Projects for Oruk Anam Council in A ‘Ibom

AKwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has said that more than 128 km road projects would be delivered to the people of Oruk Anam Local Government Area before the end of his administration in May 2023.

Speaking at Ikot Ibritam the headquarters of Oruk Anam Local Government Area on Tuesday while conducting newsmen round various road project sites, Governor Emmanuel said the road projects were at various stages of completion.

Emmanuel who was represented by his Special Assistant on Research and Documentation, Mr Essien Ndueso said the road infrastructure massively constructed would serve as a rallying point of unity to various sections of OrukAnam people.

” This is the first time in AKwa Ibom state where the governor went out to execute projects in all the local government areas in the state.

“In Oruk Anam local government area alone , we have over 128km ongoing road projects . We have 5.1km Martha Udom Emmanuel’s road in Obio Akpa to open the off campus of AKwa Ibom state University linking up the host community of the university.

” There are other intervention projects by the state government in the state University. This includes facilities in the Department of Mass Communication and Faculty of Agriculture,” he said.

He also said that the road project in the institution has also helped in the tackling of flood menace that ravaged the university before Udom Emmanuel took over as governor in 2015.

Governor Emmanuel also inspected 23.5km Ikot Eka Ideh, Ikot Okoro , Ikot Ibritam road project site which he said was segmented to two contractors, while two bridges on the road have been awarded to AMITEK company for speedy completion.

“All the roads have side drains from both sides of the road being the standard of our road projects.
The road will bring improved economic activities in the area.

“Some parts of the road is completed especially the axis close to the Oruk Anam council Secretariat,” he said.

Governor Emmanuel also inspected 18.95km Ikot Ibritam , Inen Ekeffe , Ikot Akpan Afaha road projects being handled by AYF company to ascertain extent of work done .

He explained that Ikot Akpan Afaha axis of the road has been completed waiting for commissioning .

Other road projects visited by Governor Emmanuel in the area were 4.94km road at Ikot Ibritam to Ibesit with solar powered street light, phase 3 Abak Nsehe Ikot Ekara which he said is ready for use.

“When people are asking where is the the 13 per cent oil derivation windfall ? We would reply them with evidence of landmark projects scattered throughout the 31 local government areas in the state ” he said.

Gôvernor Emmanuel disclosed that the state has also intervened in Healthcare facility in the same local government area through the remodelling of General Hospital Ikot Okoro located in the area.

He explained that the remodelled hospital was almost collapsed leaving them for only mortuary services .

The governor said the hospital is now transformed to modern General hospital with latest sate of the art facilities.

“Many health care services is carried out here especially free medical care for pregnant women, elderly persons and children in line with state’s health policy in the completion agenda .” he said

Meanwhile, one of the indigenes of Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the state, has applauded Governor Emmanuel for providing good road network in their community.

While interacting with our reporter during the project inspection, Mr David Ediyarare said the Ibesit bridge known as ” Idim Akpan Ntokekpo was a dead trap before Governor Emmanuel intervened in the community.

“This community was not like this. There were big trees that formed a semi forest by the roadside, but now governor Udom Emmanuel has turned it into a mini city with solar powered street light,” he said.
