Governor’s Aide Donates Sports Kits —As community soccer tourney kicks- off

The Annual Inter-family Football Tournament among the enlarged family groups in Mbierebe Akpawat community, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State began on a colourful note with pomp and pageantry on Sunday.
The principal sponsor of the competition who is also the Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State governor on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Engr. Solomon Eyo donated sports kits to all the 13 teams participating in the tournament.
The items donated included a giant size trophy, nets, FIFA recommended footballs, boots and state of the art jerseys.
The presentation of the items was done on behalf of the governor’s aide by his father pastor Daniel Eyo to the youths representing the 13 family group teams.
In his remarks, Pst. Eyo thanked God for making it possible for the governor’s aide be one of those on the line of service to the state as well as his community. He urged the youths to toe the line of productivity by channeling their God given talent to rewarding ventures such as sports and other vocations which are skill-based since everyone is endowed with talent from God.
He also charged them to shun, cultism as well as other vices currently rocking the Nigerian society.
In his response, the Director of Sports in the community, Aniefiok Johnson, expressed gratitude to the governor’s aide for the befitting kits and added that the items would boost the morale of the players as well as add value and colour to the tournament which winds down on the first day of next month.
In their follow up reaction, Godwin Moffat, Secretary of the Mbierebe Akpawat Progressive Youths thanked the donor of the kits and promised to work for the enhanced image of the community while a member of the Local Organizing Committee of the tournament, Itakkeowo Moses sued for peace and mutual cooperation among youths in the community for the tournament to attain greater heights.
In the opening game on Sunday, Nnung Ono Unwene Selected made mince meat of their opponents, Nnung Obioanyie with two appealing first half goals.
The tournament continues with other teams taking their turns daily.
A handsome financial award package has been set aside for participating teams as well as players who distinguish themselves in the tournament.
