The Village Head of Ifa Ikot Akpan, Etoi in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Eteidung Edem Aniedi Ebong has been suspended from office for three months with effect from 1st December,2022 .

A statement by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong indicates that the Village Head was found culpable of gross misconduct of poor leadership and negligence of duty occasioned by his failure to maintain peace and order in his domain, resulting to violence and severe injury considered to be prejudicial to security of the State and violation of Traditional Rulers Law of Akwa Ibom State .

Meanwhile, Eteidung Edem Ebong according to the statement was directed to handover Government properties in his possession to the Chairman of the Village Council, Mr Edidiong Effiong who would oversee the affairs of the community for the period of his suspension.

It would be recalled that on Sunday, 13th November,2022, a portion of the strategic Oron/Airport Road located in Ifa Ikot Akpan between the Metropolitan city and Victor Attah International airport and key points of the State were blocked and rendered impassable by irate youths and women of Ifa Ikot Akpan . The above mayhem created embarrassment to the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State due to the obstruction which had hindered free flow of traffic and created serious breach of peace and security within and around the area.

Again, it was also reported that same irate youths and women of the area took laws into their hands and impeded construction work on Government project in the community.
