2023 Guber Polls: Court Sacks APC Governorship Candidate In Akwa Ibom

A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo has sacked the governorship flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Akan Udofia.
In a judgement to the suit AKAN UDOFIA vs ITA ENANG, APC & INEC FHC/UY/CS/144/2022, the court ruled that Obong Udofia was not qualified to contest the APC Governorship primaries on May 26, 2022 because he was not a legitimately registered member of the party.
Obong Udofia is said to have contested the APC primaries few days after decamping from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Aggrieved and unsatisfied with the outcome of the primaries, first runner-up Sen. Ita Enang approached the court praying the court to, among other things, determine Obong Akan Udofia’s eligibility for the APC Governorship primaries.
In the judgement delivered on Monday November 14, the Court declared the process the produced Udofia null and void and ordered the APC to conduct another primaries within two weeks from the date of the judgement.
At the time of this report, the APC or the Obong Akan Udofia campaign organization were yet to comment on the Federal High Court’s Judgement but feelers from the camp of the business man turned politician suggests an appeal has been filed to try to overturn the judgement.
Barring any other court ruling on the contentious issue, the APC in Akwa Ibom State will have until November 28 to conduct a fresh primary which will exclude the disqualified Obong Udofia. (Global Patriot)
