“I understand that this is the first properly constructed tarred road in this LGA. I am also made to understand that past governors have come here for campaigns and made promises concerning this road and not fulfilled it. Only Governor Udom Emmanuel came back to fulfill the promise he made which is why we are here today. Let me say that your Governor is a God-fearing leader, a capacity Governor and one who keeps to his promises” Obaseki said

Continuing, the Edo Governor said when he was invited to come commission the project, he clearly told Governor Udom that he hopes it was not any how project because he will not accept. He said he is happy seeing how important the road is to the people.

“When my brother your Governor, informed me of the project, I clearly told him that I do not commission anyhow project. When he told me the story behind the project and the fact that it is the first properly constructed tarred road since the creation of the Local Government, I made up my mind to be here in person especially given the service attitude of your governor. Today, I have seen how important this road is to the benefiting LGA.” Obaseki added.

While lauding Governor Udom Emmanuel for his visionary and development-oriented leadership in the last 7 years of his administration, Obaseki said it was not just about the project but the connection it brings to the people. He urged the people to take ownership of the project.

“I must commend your Governor for his visionary and development-oriented leadership in the last 7 years of his administration. This is not just a project. The road serves as a connecting link between the people of Udung Uko and the outside world. This connection will bring so many good things for the benefit of the people. The road is now yours. Take ownership of it and make sure you protect and maintain it. The local government and the people should ensure they do not allow grasses to grow by the sides. It will spoil the road”, he advised.

Earlier in his goodwill message, a prominent son of the area, Chief Okon Osung had appreciated the Governor for changing the governance narratives of the area by gifting them with the first ever tarred road since creation pf the Loal Government Area. He promised the Governor of the support and loyalty of the people to his completion agenda and succession plan.

“Let me specially thank our dear Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for changing the governance narrative in Udung Uko LGA. Since the creation of the local government in 1996, this is the first time we will be experiencing the taste of what a tarred road looks like. Thank you for this road. Past governors made promises but only you came, promised and fulfilled the same by giving us the first tarred road. We are grateful. The people of Udung Uko will have this memory forever. We will support your succession plan and will vote massively for the PDP come 2023.

Others who spoke at the Commissioning were the Council Chairman, the Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko, the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South in the Senate, among others.

They thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for fulfilling his promise to the people of Udung Uko and like Oliver Twist, they made requests for more roads to open up the area.
