ASUU Strike: University Announces Resumption Date, Shuns ASUU

The Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, would resume the institution for academic activity on Monday, August 29, in defiance of the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) rigid stance.
This occurred six months after the ASUU members from the EKSU chapter joined the continuing strike called by university teachers to fight for, among other numerous demands, rapid reform of the country’s ivory towers.
The university said last week that it would stop the statewide strike within the campus and resume academic activity through its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun.
The administration had stood up in support of the school and urged the leader of ASUU to apologize and retract the statement.
The Vice Chancellor stated that the institution’s stakeholders decided to resume classes.
“The decision to resume work and return to normalcy was decided by the stakeholders regarding the impact of this protracted strike on the institution,” the statement continued.
In addition, according to a statement from Mr. Ife Oluwole, the registrar of the EKSU, the resumption had an impact on both former and prospective students for the academic year 2021/22.
The Vice Chancellor and other Principal Officers, Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Professors, and Officers on grade level 14 and above convened on Sunday, August 21, 2022, to examine the situation at the university, according to Oluwole.
“Stakeholders noted the socio-economic effects of the current strike action embarked upon by the staff unions in the University on other stakeholders (parents, students, alumni and staff) and the plea by the parents.
“It further noted that the industrial action is having negative effects not only on the students but also on the University.
