Crime Reporters Elect AKS Chapter Executive

The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has been reconstituted and elections held to elect a interim executive.

In a meeting held on Monday July 11, 2022 in Uyo, the state capital, Solomon Okpo emerged the chairman and was duly handed over a staff of office by the substantive South-South correspondent of CRAN Magazine in the State, Mr. Raymond Ekpe.
According to the new chairman, crime reporters from newspapers and broadcasting stations in the state are expected to be members. He however said that crime reporting is a specialized area in Journalism, therefore it will not be an all-comers affair.

“ The national body will be here later this quarter to inaugurate the Akwa Ibom Chapter, provide the official identification cards to the new members as well as meet with all security agencies in the state and secure approval for the chapter to commence interactions with them”, he said.
Okpo commended members for turning out for the event, assuring that soon, training programmes and workshops will commence to train members on crime reportage which is different from regular news reporting.

Other executive members elected were: Uduak Akai (vice chairman),
Paulinus Nta(secretary),Itoro Bassey (assistant secretary), Lovina Emole (treasurer), Mfonobong Ukpong (public relations officer) and three ex-officio members namely: Sammy Etuk, Raymond Ekpe and Paulinus Nnah.
