PVC: A’Ibom NUJ, INEC register journalists ahead of 2023 elections

Ahead next year’s general elections, the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ in collaboration with the State Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC today undertook the registration of Permanent Voter Cards for Journalists in the State.

The exercise took place at the NUJ Press Center, Information Drive, IBB Way, Uyo.

Addressing the members, the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Amos Etuk said with the registration, the NUJ in Akwa Ibom has started the process of ensuring a credible election in 2023.

Comrade Etuk assured that the Union will build confidence in the electoral processes and set agenda for the upcoming polls.

The Chairman – in – Council opined that Nigeria belongs to all and all should be involved in the build up to the elections to ensure that credible persons are elected into various positions of responsibility.

Comrade Etuk noted that the PVC registration will afford members of the union the opportunity to vote conscientiously and thanked members for turning out for the exercise.

He commended the INEC REC, Mr Mike Igini and his team for the collaboration, intimating that Akwa Ibom State Council of the Union was the first to be aquainted with the tenets of the 2022 Electoral Acts.

The Head, Voter, Voter Education, INEC, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Odaro Aisien described voter registration as a prerequisite to the main elections hence the need for the commission to collaborate with the union to achieve that.

He assured that the exercise will be hit- free and beneficial to NUJ members.

The exercise featured fresh registrations, transfer of cards and attention to those with issues of defacing cards.
