Akwa United home ground Shut down for Confederation Cup

The Godswill Akpabio Stadium will host this year’s Confederation Cup final, and the FIFA/CAF inspection team has arrived in Uyo to assess the Arena’s readiness.

FIFA pitch Consultant Jorge Manuel Palmacuder flew in, Sunday, for the inspection exercise ahead of the May 20 Confederate Cup final.

CAF competitions Committee voted for the Stadium according to NFF Technical and Development Committee member Paul Bassey, who also doubles as the Chairman of NPFL side Akwa United.

Bassey disclosed that the Stadium which is the home ground of the NPFL side will be closed to all activities until after the match.

‘A meeting will be held today (Monday), between the FIFA Pitch Consultant and Akwa Ibom State Football Association (FA), Stadium Manager, Julius Berger as well as Ministry staff to fine-tune all preparatory activities within the stadium,’ Bassey stated.

It will be recalled that CAF officials had visited the stadium recently to inspect the state of the sporting facilities.
