AKSEPWMA begins a-5-day waste intervention exercise
The Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) has begun a waste intervention exercise that will last for five (5) days in the State.
Chairman of the agency, Obong Prince Ikim, dropped the hint on Saturday in a chat with newsmen after an inspection tour of the State to ascertain the level of citizens’ participation in this month’s environmental sanitation exercise.
“Today is the beginning of the waste intervention programme which has however coincided with this month’s environmental sanitation exercise. The intervention programme will last for five days,”– Ikim
He noted that the increase in the volume of waste was a result of the population increase in the State and assured that, with the massive support of the Governor, Akwa Ibom residents will witness a continuous clean and green environment.
The AKSEPWMA boss again warned against indiscriminate waste disposal and unhealthy practices that violate the state’s extant environmental laws.
Ikim further reminded the general public of the government’s zero-tolerance for environmental abuse, as the Agency commenced total enforcement against waste dumping, maintaining that ignorance of the law would not be taken as an excuse for anyone caught violating it.
He used the occasion to call on corporate bodies and Non Governmental Organizations to support AKSEPWMA in its onerous task of making Akwa Ibom waste-free.
