Akwa United defender James Ajako grabs another assist for Collins in Enyimba win

Akwa United defender James Ajako was delighted with his role in their defeat of Enyimba on Sunday afternoon.

A very likely source of goal-inspiration came in the form of high-flying left-back James Ajako, who was key to Akwa United’s impressive 1-0 win over People’s Elephant.

Ajako was key both defensively strong, as he made 7 tackles (most of any defender), 2 clearances and 2 interceptions in his sides clean sheet, but was instrumental going forward with 5 accurate long-balls, accurate crosses and 1 assist.

Ajako’s connection with Uche Collins, which led to goal on the weekend, will be something the Promise Keepers fans will look to as a promising avenue to goal.

“I think we just said, ‘keep on playing, keep on believing, keep doing the same things.’ A few adjustments, but I think we played pretty good in the first half as well. Just lacked the goal and it was now tough because you know you’ve got just 45 minutes to get the job done.

“But I think we played well, and we kept on doing a lot of the same things. And then we got more space in the second half. I think they were tired in the end, so brilliant, brilliant performance from everyone.”

Reacting to Collins’ bullet header from his corner kick, Ajako said;

“Collins is a very important player, he’s always there to help us out and we’ve got to be pleased with the result.

He’s got great goalscoring instinct within him, whenever he goes up for corners we have real belief in him and when it comes to headers, he’s always got the ability to put the ball where he wants to.”
